Jerry Neuheisel, the former UCLA backup quarterback who chose not to use his final year of eligibilty for the Bruins following his graduation, made his debut over the weekend playing football in Japan.
Playing for the Obic Seagulls on Saturday, he threw a 67-yard touchdown pass on the first play, according to the Japan Times.
He ended up completing six of 14 passes for 116 yards and two interceptions in a 43-3 win for the Seagulls, an eight-time X League champion. The game was played in Kawasaki.
Neuheisel, a Loyola High graduate and the son of former UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel, came to Japan in February.
“They are so great,” he said of his teammates. “They’ve helped me learn Japanese, helped me assimilate into the Japanese culture and made me feel like one of their family. I’m just thankful to be part of the team and part of the family and happy to be a Seagull.”
