The International Olympic Committee has begun its final inspection of Rio de Janeiro in advance of the 2016 Summer Games.

An IOC group arrived in the Brazilian city on Monday with plans to spend three days touring venues and checking on various operations.

Construction of competition sites is nearing an end but the governing bodies for individual sports reportedly remain concerned. Officials from the Assn. of Summer Olympic International Federations are in Rio this week.

“We would like to hear that venue construction completion is totally on schedule … and there are no issues,” ASOIF Director Andrew Ryan told aroundtherings.com.

Rio has faced numerous challenges in recent months, including construction delays, pollution in Guanabara Bay and an outbreak of the Zika virus.

The IOC is expected to discuss its inspection at a Wednesday news conference.
