Downtown 81 In conjunction with MOCA’s exhibition “Art in the Streets” (on view through Aug. 8 at the Geffen Contemporary), the Cinefamily screens Edo Bertoglio’s 1981 portrait of the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat and New York’s downtown art scene. Diane Arbus Arbus captured our attention with her sensitive eye for subjects who were considered on the outside of mainstream society, whether circus performers or the transgendered in her beloved New York. This exhibition will survey her work from 1956 to 1971, and it will be the most extensive collection of her photography in Los Angeles since “Diane Arbus: Revelations” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2004. “Diane Arbus: People and Other Singularities” will also contain several photographs that have never before been exhibited.
