Hawaiian Airlines to offer service from LAX to the Big Island, Kauai
Hawaiian Airlines is to begin offering nonstop service from Los Angeles to the Big Island and Kauai starting in June.
Hawaiian’s flights from LAX to Kona (KOA) on the Big Island and Lihue (LIH) on Kauai will be seasonal, unlike other airlines that offer year-round, nonstop flights to these islands.
Flights to Kona will be offered beginning June 26 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, the airline said. The Lihue route, which is to begin June 27, will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The service is designed to help meet peak summer travel demand and will continue for 12 weeks until mid-September, the carrier said. The airline will use twin-aisle Boeing 767s that carry 264 passengers.
Round-trip economy fares, priced on Monday on Hawaiian Airlines’ website, were $881 to Kona and $893 to Lihue for travel in late June and early July.
Kona and Lihue already have nonstop flights from LAX on American, Delta and United. Hawaiian, however, boasts the only complementary meal service in coach between Southern California and the islands.
