This century-old hotel, which includes some small guest cottages, is among the few dog-friendly accommodations on the island. Lodgings are simple and economically priced and only a block from Avalon Bay. Doubles from $79 a night. No pet fee.
Big Bear Lake: Pine Knot Guest Ranch, 908 Pine Knot Ave.; (800) 866-3446, https://www.pineknotguestranch.com. Individual cabins, most with fireplaces, kitchenettes and in-room spas. Small playground, with bunnies and llamas to pet and feed. Doubles from $129 a night. Pet fee: $10 per pet, per night.
Las Vegas: Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel, Casino & Spa, 160 E. Flamingo Road; (702) 836-9776, https://www.westin.com. Upscale high-rise hotel one block off the Strip near the Bellagio. Small pet walking area on the grounds. Helpful, dog-friendly staff. Double rates from $99 a night, Pet fee: $35 per pet; $150 refundable fee, if no damage.

Comfortable, roomy motel within walking distance of a dog-friendly beach and 17 miles to Drummond Ranch sheepherding facility above Malibu. Pool. Full breakfast included in rate. Doubles from $149 a night. Pet fee: $25.
Newport Beach: Island Hotel, 690 Newport Center Drive; (866) 554-4620, https://www.theislandhotel.com. Luxury high-rise hotel adjacent to dog-friendly Fashion Island shopping center. Grassy lot for pet walks. Dog-friendly shuttle to beach and other activities. Doubles from $269 a night; $100 fee per animal per stay. Special pet package available.
WHERE TO EAT
Catalina: The Landing Bar & Grill, 101 Marilla Ave., Avalon; (310) 510-1474, https://www.catalinalanding.com. Great views and food at this dog-friendly restaurant tucked into a hillside overlooking Avalon Bay. They’ll bring Fido a dish of water and you a tasty salad, pasta or seafood dish. Entrees $9.75-$23.75.
Big Bear: Nottinghams Restaurant, 40797 Lakeview Drive, Big Bear Village; (909) 866-4643, https://www.nottinghams.info. This restaurant at the Robinhood Resort has an outside patio where dogs are welcome. Sandwiches, pizza, pasta, steaks. Entrees $7.95-$31.95
Las Vegas: TGI Friday’s, 4570 W. Sahara Ave.; (702) 889-1866, https://www.tgifridays.com. There’s a patio here where you can dine with your pet, but you’ll want to make sure the temperature is cool enough outside. Variety of sandwiches and entrees. Entrees $7.99-$21.99.
Malibu: CooGie’s, 23750 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu Colony Plaza; (310) 317-1444, https://www.coogies.malibu.menuclub.com. Outdoor café is a local hotspot; dine on sandwiches, salads, pasta, seafood or meat dishes and watch for celebs with tiny lapdogs. Entrees $7.95-$14.95.
Newport Beach: 59th and Lex Café, 701 Newport Center Drive outside Bloomingdale’s Fashion Island; (949) 729-6600, https://www.bloomingdales.com. The outdoor section of this café is filled with Newport’s toniest canines. Salads, sandwiches, pastas, desserts. Entrees $9-$16.50.
