Big Bear snowboarding in September
Big Bear gets a jump start on snow season with the 11th Annual Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails snowboarding event Sept. 27 at Bear Mountain.
Snowboarding in September? Well, thanks to 140 tons of ice that will be brought in for the event. Admission is free, and gates open at 9 a.m.
The competition, which starts at 2 p.m., showcases 40 top professional snowboarders from all over the world on a course coated with chipped ice. Bear Mountain calls it a “sprawling urban-style layout.”
Judges for the competition include Bear Mountain professional team riders Joe Sexton, Chris Bradshaw, Scott Stevens and special guest judges to be announced.
In addition to watching the snowboarders, spectators can take part in a variety of games, enjoy live DJs and pick up promotional products.
“We’re very excited about hosting the largest winter kickoff event of the year,” said marketing director Rio Tanbara.
Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails offers the final opportunity to purchase a 2014-2015 winter season pass for Bear Mountain and Snow Summit at 1990s rollback prices, starting at $189.
