Gear: This sailor’s jacket is sea — and land — worthy
Atlantis Weather Gear is designed by and for sailors, so waterproof is a given, but the new Aegis Jacket adds some practical features.
A heavily reinforced zippered pocket on the lower left sleeve provides a protective entranceway for a smartphone or GPS, which then slides farther into a touch-conducive transparent window.
The jacket also has a high-visibility stowaway hood, a double storm flap on the main zipper, a fleece-lined collar, roomy hand pockets, a chest pocket with flap-covered zippers, and an internal mesh drop pocket with a draw cord for securing contents.
Polyurethane-laminated cuffs seal out water with an assist from built-in Velcro tab closures. Despite its storm-defying design, the Aegis is neither stiff nor heavy, and has enough breathability to let sweat out.
The Aegis Jacket in M, L or XL (women should order one size down) costs $350 and comes in High Risk Red.
