Hathaway-Sycamores holding annual fundraiser

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services will honor a La Cañada Flintridge couple when it holds its annual fundraiser, the Celebrating Childrens Awards Reception, at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 16, beginning at 5 p.m.

This year’s honorees are Annsley and George Strong, longtime residents of this city and supporters of Hathaway-Sycamores. Annsley Strong was first introduced to the agency when she was a member of the Los Altos Auxiliary, which raises funds for the children and teens who are in residential treatment at Hathaway-Sycamores’ El Nido campus in Altadena. As Strong recalls, the Los Altos Auxiliary decided to devote its fund-raising efforts to Hathaway-Sycamores “because we liked that the agency had started as Pasadena’s first orphanage and was a local organization.”

The Strongs have been actively involved ever since. Annsley Strong served on the agency’s board of directors for 13 years and held the position of board chair from 2006 to 2008. She currently serves on Hathaway-Sycamores’ Advisory Board and is a member of the agency’s Strategic Planning Committee. Through the Strong Family Partnership, she and her husband have supported several charities, focusing primarily on those related to education, children, and healthcare.

“We have been so fortunate to have been able to create a solid foundation for our children that it’s inspirational to know our financial support can create that for others,” George Strong stated in a news release.

The Dodgers will be playing the Colorado Rockies in Colorado that evening, so reception attendees will have the local ballpark to themselves. Six-time National League All-Star Ron Cey will make a special appearance at the event, which will also include a Stadium Club cocktail party, dinner buffet, dessert and coffee. That night’s Dodger game will be viewed on flatscreen TVs via DodgerVision. Adding to the festivities will be a live auction, raffle drawing and gift bags for all who attend.
