She made her film debut as one of the little people in the 1981 Chevy Chase comedy ‘Under the Rainbow,’ but 4-foot, 3-inch Zelda Rubinstein made her biggest impact on moviegoers a year later as the psychic with the childlike voice in the horror movie ‘Poltergeist.’
Rubinstein also was one of the first Hollywood celebrities to speak out on HIV and AIDS in the mid-1980s and participated in a high-profile public awareness program in Los Angeles in which she appeared in TV spots and ads in newspapers and on billboards and buses.
Friends and fans will gather to celebrate the life of the diminutive actress, who died Jan. 27 at age 76, at 10:30 a.m. May 15 at the Vista Theater, 4473 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles.
