Lea Michele’s effortless waves

‘Glee’ star Lea Michele is looking much more her age than in the pinned up and prim ensemble she wore at the Globes.
Her sexy, loose curls were the actress’ way of mixing it up, her hair stylist David Gardner said. ‘She is very conscious of mixing it up,’ he said. ‘She wanted something clean and more casual.’
To get the volume going in Michele’s abundant brown locks, Gardner put a moisturizing mousse through her hair before drying it into what he calls a ‘big frizz ball.’
He then put curls all the way around her head and brushed them out after she put on her emerald-green Malandrino dress.
The trick, says Gardner, is to use a curling iron barrel that is a half-inch smaller than the actual size you want the curl. ‘This way, the curl will fall to the size you want within a half an hour and stay that way for the entire night.’
Also, Gardner made sure to make the front of Michele’s hair flat and smooth. ‘You don’t want too much volume in the hair that surrounds your face or you end up going from young and fresh to straight out of ‘Dallas.’ ‘
