Gifts inspired by the Oscars: ‘The Kids Are All Right’

This is going to be a crazy week as Hollywood gets ready for Sunday’s Academy Awards. So we thought why not use some of the nominees as inspirations for any gifts you’re looking for this week? First up, ‘The Kids Are All Right.’

Oh, how we love this flick…let us count the ways. 1) It’s set in California. 2) Same-sex marriage is an assumed normalcy. 3) Mark Ruffalo (aka Paul) as a sexy sperm donor-biker-organic vegetable gardener-restaurateur has us positively smitten. 4) Annette Bening shines in a brilliant performance as Nic. 5) Not to date ourselves, but the classic ‘70s tunes simply rock — from The Who’s song referenced in the title to classics from Joni Mitchell and David Bowie 6) We’re ga-ga for gorgeous Julianne Moore.

And as landscape designer Jules, she makes us fall even more in love with gardening -- a central subtext of the film. If we had to make one edit, it would be to upgrade her tools with these playful gardening accessories (there’s also a coordinating ping-pong set) that comes close to matching the striped tablecloth in the outdoor dining scene, above.
