Bahrain’s foreign minister, Sheik Khalid bin Ahmed al Khalifa, on Thursday justified a government crackdown on protesters that left at least three dead.
Al Khalifa spoke in the capital, Manama, after meeting with his gulf counterparts, according to the Associated Press.
He said the violence was ‘regrettable’ but necessary because the demonstrators were ‘polarizing the country’ and pushing it to the ‘brink of the sectarian abyss,’ according to the Associated Press.
