LIBYA: Reports of 19 dead, video of alleged shooting by police

Nineteen people have been killed in clashes in Benghazi and Al Bayda in Libya, Al Arabiya television reported Thursday, without saying where it got the information.

A video posted on YouTube Thursday purportedly shows two protesters fatally shot by police at 5 p.m. in Benghazi, although that could not be verified.

A Libyan human rights group has reported that protests against the government of Moammar Kadafi in Al Bayda, about 120 miles east of Benghazi, left as many as 13 dead.

‘Internal security forces and militias of the Revolutionary Committees used live ammunition to disperse a peaceful demonstration by the youth of Al Bayda,’ leaving ‘at least four dead and several injured,’ according to London-based Libya Watch.

Al-Youm and Al-Manara earlier reported that at least four people had been killed in Al Bayda.

‘This regime is like no other, we are all being slaughtered now on the streets! They are killing anyone and everyone,’ one protester tweeted to the ShababLibya youth group, which has been fielding phone calls from Libya and posting information on Twitter and a Facebook page.

‘People need to call in, make their voices heard,’ group members tweeted on Thursday. ‘The world is listening, we are translating.’
