The Witch fire has burned about 200,000 acres in San Diego and has merged with the Guajito and Poomacha fires, which started on the La Jolla Indian Reservation on Tuesday, said Lee Swanson, a spokesman for San Diego Fire and Rescue. The fire was 1% contained. It has destroyed about 1,000 homes and damaged about 315. Swanson said 1,492 firefighters were battling the blaze this morning. He said the cause was under investigation. “Within the city we’re looking to hit a lot of hot spots and try to get some citizens back into their homes,” Swanson said. “Like it was with the Cedar fire four years ago, the real problem now is in the backcountry and the county areas.” -- Tami Abdollah
