For all of you visual-art lovers out there who hope that the future of the profession doesn’t look remotely like Bravo’s reality series ‘Work of Art,’ here’s some alternative programming courtesy of the Huffington Post blog.
Starting Monday, HuffPo will host an online ‘telephone’ game in which artists are invited to create a work of art in less than 24 hours in response to another work of art.
‘7 Rings,’ created by Rebecca Campbell and Nicole Walker, will engage 60 writers and artists who will create individual works as part of the online experiment.
Campbell will kick off the project with a painting of two sleeping children that the artist created after reading the HuffPo story “Wake Them When It’s Over,” about the media’s spotty coverage of recent news leaks in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, Walker, a writer, will respond to Campbell’s work of art with her own creation.
Currently, the goal is for this virtual game of telephone to continue for 60 days, seven days a week. If more artists and writers sign on, the blog hopes to extend the game even further.
Other artists and writers who have signed on to participate in the project include pop artist Nancy Kienholz and writer Nick Flynn.
