Sure, his daughter Jennifer may be getting all kinds of attention due to her ‘Dancing With the Stars’ gig, but it doesn’t look as if Joel Grey is losing his footing either. Today came word that the 78-year-old musical legend (pictured with Liza Minnelli in the movie version of ‘Cabaret’ for just one example) is heading back to the Great White Way.
He’s joining Sutton Foster as Moonface Martin, possibly the least-dangerous public enemy ever to break into song on an ocean liner, in director Kathleen Marshall’s revival of ‘Anything Goes’ at the Roundabout Theater Company.
On stage, the musical had seen off-Broadway, Broadway, London and West End revivals -- not to mention that just about every regional theater and high school drama department has performed it -- since we first set sale on the S.S. American in the 1930s with Victor Moore as Moonface, William Gaxton as hapless lovebird Billy Crocker and Ethel Merman as singer Reno Sweeney. So we have to ask: What do you think of this casting?
