Today: While experts predict the Corpse Flower will bloom sometime between June 5-10, why wait for a glimpse? The Huntington is open today from noon to 4:30 p.m. Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino. Admission ranges from $6 to $15. (626) 405-2100.
Tuesday: The landmark Gamble House hosts a weekly lunch-hour program that takes advantage of the warmer weather. Visitors are invited to bring their lunch and picnic on the rear lawn or terrace between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 23. Docent-led 20-minute tours will be given at 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. at a cost of $5. 4 Westmoreland Place, Pasadena. Reservations: (626) 449-4178.
Saturday: Chef and horticulturist Craig Ruggless leads a class on seeds. Learn how to prep now for winter gardening. 10 a.m. to noon. Included in regular admission of $3 to $8. Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. (818) 949 4200.
Saturday: The self-driven tour called ‘Art in Historic Places: West Adams’ Creative Canvas’ includes more than a dozen architecturally diverse venues. Stops include Victorian, Craftsman and Spanish homes and artists’ studios and the Union Theater, a World War I-era movie theater now home to the Velaslavasay Panorama exhibition hall. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advance tickets are $25, available at www.westadamsheritage.com through Monday. Admission is $30 on day of tour, paid at the door.
Saturday: The Japanese design store Playmountain (shown above) sets up a 90-day summer shop at Heath Ceramics Los Angeles. The store will feature Playmountain’s newest line, Chin Jukan Pottery, and other unique home accessories.
Sunday: Long Beach Heritage will highlight seven architecturally distinguished homes in Belmont Heights, Bluff Park and the Cliff May Ranchos neighborhood in the annual Great Homes of Long Beach tour. Docents will highlight interior and exterior features as well as house history. Noon to 5 p.m. $30 to $35.
Sunday: The South Bay Bromeliad Associates meeting will feature a presentation by Robert Kopstein and Andy Siekkinen, who will discuss a recent 4,000-mile journey through Mexico on ‘Yellow Roads: In Search of Hechtia Argentia.’ 1:30 p.m. Palos Verdes Library in the Community Room, 701 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills. ‘The Artistic Furniture of Charles Rohlfs,’ the first major exhibition of furniture and decorative art by the American craftsman Charles Rohlfs (1853–1936) features more than 40 pieces from 10 museums and private collections. ‘The Page,’ an exhibit of artists books from 33 painters, photographers, sculptors, graphic designers and printers. Visitors also can experience the artists’ work in an area featuring chairs designed by nine L.A.-based architects.
