Former California Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg has endorsed Mike Feuer in the four-candidate race for Los Angeles city attorney, the Feuer campaign announced Monday.

Hertzberg served as co-chair of City Atty. Carmen Trutanich’s transition team after he won the office four years ago.

Trutanich, who lost a bid last year to become L.A. County district attorney before deciding to seek reelection to the city post, faces three challengers in the March 5 municipal primary. In addition to Feuer, a former city councilman and state assemblyman, attorneys Greg Smith and Noel Weiss are running.

In a statement released by the Feuer campaign, Hertzberg said, ‘Feuer will be the chief problem-solver for the city,’ saying that Feuer while in the Assembly had written ‘some of the most innovative laws to combat gun violence.’

The Trutanich campaign declined to comment on the endorsement.
