L.A. Zoo seeks volunteers

High school students and adults interested in volunteering at the L.A. Zoo will have their chance to learn more at the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association‘s volunteer orientation on Feb. 7.

‘All that’s required is a love of our natural world, an interest in spending time with visitors of all ages, and completion of the required training. There are many ways in which you can volunteer your time,’ says Kirin Daugharty, who manages the zoo association’s volunteer programs.

Volunteer opportunities include ‘liaising’ with the animals in the petting zoo, helping with special events and assisting the zoo’s visitors. Volunteers must attend the orientation and an interview, submit an application (which can be filled out at the orientation or online), complete a two-week training course, and be fingerprinted. Applicants must be age 16 or older.

The orientation begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 in the zoo’s Witherbee Auditorium. For more information, check out the zoo’s website or e-mail volunteers@lazoo.org.
