Susan Lucci lets it rip over ‘All My Children’ cancellation

Susan Lucci has some words for the ABC Daytime executive at the helm for the cancellation of ‘All My Children’ -- and after nearly 41 years playing Erica Kane, her words are nothing if not dramatic.

In an epilogue added to the paperback edition of her book ‘All My Life: A Memoir,’ Lucci pinned the blame on ABC Daytime honcho Brian Frons, whom she said she personally berated for his choices.

‘I watched Brian Frons’ decisions destroy the production of our show and the lives of people on both sides of the country,’ she said. Frons’ 2008 head-writer replacement was ultimately responsible for overseeing ‘subpar’ scripts, said Lucci, who noted he told her the daytime drama could be replaced by a food show that cost less to make.

‘AMC’ production was moved from New York City to Burbank in January 2010 to cut costs. If Frons ‘could show his bosses that he could save the network 40 percent ... he could keep his job even if the rest of us lost ours,’ said Lucci, a 21-time Daytime Emmy nominee and one-time winner for lead actress.

An ABC rep told the New York Post that although the network had ‘all the respect in the world for Susan,’ those involved were ‘sorry she felt the need to write this epilogue to an otherwise incredible career.’

‘All My Children’ will go off the air after its Sept. 23 episode, closing out with cameos from alumni including Josh Duhamel, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Carol Burnett, to name a few.

So, would the last person to leave Pine Valley please turn off the lights? Someone may be watching the electricity bill.
