White House asks Clinton library to release Kagan papers

The White House is asking Bill Clinton’s presidential library to speed the release of thousands of pages of papers in its possession from Elena Kagan’s tenure as a Clinton advisor.

Kagan is President Obama’s choice to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. She currently is the U.S. solicitor general.

In a letter to library officials, the White House requested that it expedite release of the material. The papers, which are expected to be released some time this summer, are from Kagan’s tenure as a domestic policy advisor and associate White House counsel.

Republican lawmakers seeking clues about what kind of justice Kagan would be want to review them.
