The U.S. men’s water polo team on Friday advanced to the gold medal game for the first time since 1988 with a 10-5 victory over Serbia at the Yingdong Natatorium.
Tony Azevedo (Long Beach) scored three goals to lead the U.S. attack while Merrill Moses (Rancho Palos Verdes) stopped 16 of the 21 shots he faced.
The U.S. will play Hungary in the gold medal match at 3:40 p.m. Sunday Beijing time. The U.S. men have not won a medal in water polo since winning back-to-back silvers in 1984 and 1988.
