For reasons that remain a little unclear, Orange County Register columnist Frank Mickadeit has decided to spend the next three days in a cage in the Santa Ana Zoo.

Who says print journalism is dead?

Mickadeit entered his new temporary domicile Tuesday and quickly met his new neighbors. ‘About 30 feet away is a crested capuchin monkey that (Zoo Director) Kent Yamaguchi claims is the most dangerous animal at the zoo. He’ll rip your heart out. (The monkey, not Kent),’ Mickadeit wrote.

‘The most commonly asked question I get (after why are you doing this) is how will you go to the bathroom, usually followed by someone saying they hope you don’t fling poo,’ he wrote.

And in case you wanted in on the action, there’s even a streaming Web video of Mickadeit’s caged exploits.
