Republican Meg Whitman knows that in order to be elected governor, about half of her support will have to come from voters who are not registered Republicans.

Perhaps that’s why she is making a relatively quick swing through this weekend’s party confab, offering only a late-night speech Friday before moving on to bigger and better things.

Whitman will address convention delegates Friday night while U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is the featured speaker at lunch Saturday.

In between, delegates will tend to other business, including a potentially divisive resolution that reaffirms the party’s support for Proposition 187 and Arizona’s immigration law.
