Secretary of State seeks arguments on November ballot measures

With 11 measures on the Nov. 6 state ballot, California residents have until Tuesday if they want to submit pro or con arguments to be used in the state voter guide.

State voters will have a wide variety of issues to decide on the ballot, including whether to repeal the death penalty and whether to require special labeling of food from genetically altered sources. The ballot also includes proposals by Gov. Jerry Brown and others to raise taxes.

Ballot arguments cannot exceed 500 words, and rebuttals to those arguments cannot exceed 250 words.

The arguments should be typed and double-spaced and either faxed to (916) 653-3214; emailed to VIGarguments@sos.ca.gov, or submitted in person to the Secretary of State’s Elections Division in Sacramento, at 1500 11th Street, fifth floor.

The deadline to submit ballot arguments is July 10 at 5 p.m. The deadline to submit rebuttals to ballot arguments is July 19 at 5 p.m.
