Fans of Mike Patton have learned that when it comes to the Faith No More/Mr. Bungle frontman, there’s always a big project up his sleeve -- and the newest one could be a blockbuster.
On Monday, it was announced that the composer, multi-instrumentalist and experimental rock polymath has signed on to score the upcoming film ‘The Place Beyond the Pines,’ directed by Derek Cianfrance (‘Blue Valentine’) and starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Ray Liotta and Eva Mendes. The film reportedly will be released later this year.
Judging by star power alone, this appears to be Patton’s biggest film scoring gig to date. In the past, he’s composed for the Italian drama ‘The Solitude of Prime Numbers,’ the explosion-filled action flick ‘Crank: High Voltage’ and the short film ‘A Perfect Place.’
Information on the film and Patton’s score is scarce at this point, though we do know the plot centers on Gosling, who plays a motorcycle stunt rider who considers turning to crime to provide for his family.
A statement released today also mentioned that Patton is currently working on a new album for his band Tomahawk with a projected summer release date.
