Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert engages famous faces -- including Larry David, Alanis Morissette and Katie Couric -- as well as ordinary people in a discussion about how we feel in the three-night special “This Emotional Life.”(KCET, 9 p.m.) TUESDAY
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother . . . or cousin, spouse, parent or child. It’s a family affair once again on a new edition of the weight-loss-themed reality series “The Biggest Loser,” with a cast of contestants said to be the heaviest in the show’s history.(NBC, 8 p.m.) WEDNESDAY
Celebrities such as Rachael Ray pretend to be everyday folk in the special “I Get That a Lot,” then everyday folk vote for their favorite celebrities on “The 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards,” hosted by Queen Latifah. Now that’s symbiosis.(CBS, 8 and 9 p.m.) THURSDAY

The new series “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show” showcases the sometime “Daily Show” correspondent and pals such as Paul F. Tompkins, Brian Posehn and Janeane Garofalo doing what they do best: bringing the funny.(Comedy Central, 11 p.m.) SATURDAY
In the effects-laden 2009 thriller “Watchmen” -- based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel -- the fate of a world-gone-wrong is in the hands of some seriously flawed superheroes. Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Billy Crudup and Carla Gugino star.(HBO,8 p.m.) FAMILIAR FACES
“Law & Order’s” Benjamin Bratt guest stars as Manny’s (Rico Rodriguez) ne’er-do-well dad on “Modern Family,” while Lisa Kudrow reunites with “Friends” co-star Courtney Cox on the latter’s new series “Cougar Town.” (ABC, 9 and 9:30 p.m. Wed.)
UNHOLY MESS
