How I Met Your Mother: Neil Patrick Harris; Josh Radnor and Rachel Bilson star in the season premiere (8 p.m. CBS).
Chuck: Chuck (Zachary Levi) begins a covert search for his mom (Linda Hamilton) in the season premiere (8 p.m. NBC).
Rules of Engagement: Jeff and Audrey (Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price) get surprising news about their surrogate (Jaime Pressly) in the fifth season premiere (8:30 p.m. CBS).
Two and a Half Men: Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones return for another season of the sit-com (9 p.m. CBS).
Lone Star: After a childhood spent helping his con man father (David Keith), a man (James Wolk) struggles to hold onto a job in this new drama (9 p.m. Fox).

Hawaii Five-0: Alex O’Loughlin stars as Steve McGarret in a reboot of the classic ‘70s cop show. Scott Caan is cast as “Danno” (10 p.m. CBS).
Chase: The fugitive hunts in this new drama are in the mold of a high-concept action movie. Kelli Giddish stars (10 p.m. NBC).
Castle: As season three opens, Beckett (Stana Katic) finds Castle (Nathan Fillion) at a crime scene standing over a dead woman and holding a gun (10 p.m. ABC).
