Maykel Galindo (pictured at right last season) scored a goal on Sunday.
Sure, it was only in a reserve game and only against the woeful Galaxy reserves, but it meant a lot to Chivas USA’s Cuban striker, especially since it was a game-winner.
Galindo has not scored a goal in Major League Soccer play since March, having missed most of the season because of one injury or another as well as recent surgery for a sports hernia.
Now, he is on the mend. He played the final 13 minutes in Saturday night’s 2-1 victory over Kansas City, and Sunday’s goal will boost his confidence.
‘He’s kind of a day-to-day guy,’ said Chivas teammate Jesse Marsch. ‘Some days he feels great, some days he doesn’t. We’re all trying to push him in the right way so that he can push through this thing and not worry about the pain.
‘He’s a worrier. For every one of us, this is our job, this is our livelihood. So when you get hurt, you get worried about it a little bit. But you have to understand how to deal with injuries and how to play through them a little bit.’
