ESPN report: Raiders’ Lane Kiffin is fired

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin has been fired by owner Al Davis via a phone call today. Mortensen cites unidentified team sources and says the rest of Kiffin’s contract will not be honored.

Tom Cable, the team’s offensive line coach, was emerging as the leading candidate to replace Kiffin, a source told Mortensen, and Davis is expected to have a press conference today.

Mortensen a few minutes ago on ESPN radio said Kiffin can appeal to the coaches union if indeed his contract isn’t honored.
