Could it be that because of a Barack Obama presidency we will see fewer inner-city kids becoming professional athletes? Could it be that because of the president-elect the number of African Americans in the NBA and NFL will begin dwindling toward the much lower numbers we see in Major League Baseball? Is Barack Obama a game changer in the tough neighborhoods that spawn so many of our athletic superstars because his example shows great things can happen when you hit the books, take school seriously and look at learning as cool?

I gave my take on these matters in today’s column, and the e-mails have been flowing into my personal inbox all day. Some readers think I’m downright crazy. Some have called me a frothy-mouthed, starry-eyed, capital-L Liberal who has spoiled their day by daring to mix political talk with sports. But most column readers, judging by the cyber-mails so far, think I may well be on to something. Those of you out there in blogland, I would love to hear from you. Check out the column, and give me your thoughts.
