A drive after Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark tied the game with a 9-yard touchdown run off a quarterback draw, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez showed the Nittany Lions defense that he can run that play too.

Sanchez’s 6-yard run gave USC a 14-7 lead with 12:27 remaining. The drive illustrated the Trojans’ options in the passing game. Sanchez connected with Patrick Turner and Anthony McCoy for consecutive 26-yard passes. He’s gone 7 of 9 for 118 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Sanchez has connected with five different players.

The Nittany Lions couldn’t continue the offensive momentum. They tried opening up the running game with Stephfon Green, but he was stuffed for no gain on a 3rd-and-1 at the Penn State 28-yard line.

Sanchez then connected with four different receivers. But a screen pass to Anthony McCoy only resulted in a 3-yard gain at the Penn State 12-yard line. David Buehler connected on a 30-yard field goal for a 17-7 lead.
