The irascible Bob Knight has let it be known that he might be ready to leave the ESPN studio and return to coaching -- and he named Georgia as a possibility.
Knight, who unexpectedly resigned as coach of the Texas Tech men’s basketball team almost one year ago, said on ESPN Radio today that Georgia might be the right situation for him to make a comeback.
Lucky Georgia. There is no word from Georgia whether they would want Knight, who has a solidly built reputation as a hothead and taskmaster. Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans is heading the search after firing Dennis Felton last week.
Fellow ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale thinks it’s a great idea. Knight is ‘so good I’d come with him as an assistant, I’d be his chauffeur,’ Vitale told the Associated Press.
Knight, 68, is the all-time winningest men’s major college coach with 902 victories in 42 seasons at Army, Indiana (where he was fired) and Texas Tech, and this isn’t the first time he has hinted he may want to get back to coaching.
