Dodgers starting pitcher Jason Schmidt left the game before the top of the sixth inning and was replaced by reliever James McDonald.
Schmidt gave up five hits and three runs, all earned, in his five innings. He walked three and struck out two, hit one batter and threw 91 pitches, 56 of them strikes.
He is in position to get the win if the Dodgers hold the lead, which is now 7-3 after Andre Ethier’s home run.
