Dodgers starting pitcher Jason Schmidt had less trouble in the second inning, retiring three straight batters after hitting Ryan Hanigan.
He threw 16 pitches and struck out pitcher Micah Owings looking. Willy Taveras popped up and Jerry Hairston Jr. grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.
