Nick Joanides wins NASCAR Super Late Model championship at Irwindale

Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills won the NASCAR Super Late Model championship at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. It was his second straight Super Late Model championship. He also won the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series California State Championship and finished third in the national standings.
Joanides posted a pair of top-five finishes in the final two races of the Super Late Model season at the track. He was fifth in the first race, second in the second race and finished the season with 21 top fives in 21 races at Irwindale. Joanides won 13 races and had five runner-up finishes.
He also leads the NASCAR Late Model standings at Irwindale. He can become the first driver to win the Super Late Model and Late Model championship at Irwindale in the same season.
Rip Michels, a driver from San Fernando, won the first Super Late Model race. It was his third win of the season and the 60th of his career at Irwindale. Travis Thirkettle of Fillmore won the second Super Late Model race.
