Y.E. Yang is second-round leader at Tiger Woods’ tournament

South Korean Y.E. Yang ignored a high fever and fired a seven-under 65 today to take the halfway lead in the Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, while 49-year-old Kenny Perry also surged into contention with the same score.

With a 36-hole total of 135, or nine under par, Yang held a two-shot lead over Perry, first-round co-leader Ian Poulter and Padraig Harrington at the par-72 Sherwood Country Club.

Another shot back at six under par are 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson -- who shared the first-round lead with Poulter -- and Lee Westwood and Sean O’ Hair. [Corrected at 4:27 p.m.: An earlier version of this post gave an incorrect score for Graeme McDowell and did not mentionSean O’Hair.]

Graeme McDowell is four under. He was a late addition to the 18-player tournament, which benefits Tiger Woods’ charity, after Woods withdrew amid the personal problems that have engulfed the world’s No. 1 golfer.

It also seemed fitting that Yang should be among the leaders at this tournament because Yang had stunned the golf world in August by holding off Woods to win the PGA Championship.

Perry, meanwhile, was a two-time winner on the PGA Tour this year and nearly became the oldest player to win the Masters, but he lost that tournament in a playoff to Angel Cabrera.
