The Ducks agreed to a small move ahead of Wednesday’s trading deadline, sending forward Evgeny Artyukhin to Atlanta for defenseman Nathan Oystrick, who is recovering from a broken jaw and will remain with minor league Chicago in the American Hockey League for now. The Ducks also acquired a conditional pick in the 2011 draft.
The move allows the Ducks room to keep productive, high-energy rookie Dan Sexton in the NHL. Sexton, who has nine goals and 18 points in 28 games, had been scheduled to go to minor league affiliate Bakersfield.
Artyukhin, a hulking forward with speed and potential who is prone to taking bad penalties, has four goals and nine points to go with 41 penalty minutes this season.
Oystrick, 27, played 53 games for Atlanta last season, finishing with four goals and 12 points with 50 penalty minutes.
