Jari Kurri, the Hockey Hall of Famer and boyhood idol of Teemu Selanne, will travel from Finland to join a tribute to Selanne’s 600th NHL goal Monday before the Ducks’ game against Dallas at the Honda Center.
Selanne, who scored his 600th goal Sunday against Colorado, is poised to pass Kurri for 17th on the NHL scoring list with 601 goals. The two became close friends after Selanne, now 39, reached the NHL. They played together for one season with the Ducks in 1996-97 and recently joined efforts for Finland in the Olympics, winning a bronze medal. Kurri, now 49, was the team’s general manager.
The Ducks, their playoff hopes all but officially gone, are offering a promotion that allows fans who buy one adult ticket for the game to get one child’s ticket free. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Honda Center box office.
