Injured Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is ‘probably a bit too old’ to play for England again, Coach Fabio Capello told Britain’s ITV Sport on Wednesday.
“Thank you, David,” Capello added.
Beckham, 35, was unable to play for England in the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon injury in March while on loan to AC Milan from the Galaxy. He wound up serving as a member of Capello’s backroom staff during the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Beckham has resumed training in Los Angeles, where he told reporters he has set a mid-September return date for himself.
“The doctor said Oct. 1 but I hope it can be a few weeks before that,” he said. “I’ll know personally when I’m right. It’s my knowing if I’m right or not.”
Beckham has played in 115 games for England, second only to goalkeeper Peter Shilton‘s 125.
