Jim Furyk out at Barclays after missing pro-am tee time

Jim Furyk overslept Wednesday ... and now he will have the next four days to catch up on his sleep.
The world’s No. 6 golfer has been disqualified from The Barclays this weekend for missing his 7:30 a.m. EDT tee time for Wednesday’s pro-am.
“I always use my phone as an alarm and it had no power this morning,” Furyk said. “I don’t know if something happened with the charger or what but I never got it. I woke up at 7:23 and tore out of there, put a pair of pants on and shirt…. I have no belt or socks and my shoes aren’t tied yet. I actually got into the locker room at 7:35, but I guess I had to be on the tee.”
According to PGA rules, a player who misses a pro-am tee time for any reason except for injury or family emergency is ineligible for that week’s event.
“A commitment to play in the tournament is a commitment to play in the pro-am,” said Slugger White, the PGA vice president of rules and competitions. “It is unfortunate for Jim. It is unfortunate for the tournament. He is a fan favorite and everybody likes him. He is a really good guy, but my hands are tied.”
The Barclays is scheduled to start Thursday at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. It is the first event in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Furyk is currently third on the FedEx Cup points list.
