Jerry Sloan, who has coached the Utah Jazz since 1988, will resign Thursday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake Tribune and other media reports

Sloan, 68, had a long meeting with Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor after Wednesday’s 91-86 loss in Salt Lake City to the Chicago Bulls. The team has called a news conference this afternoon for a ‘significant announcement.’

The Tribune said assistant coach Tyrone Corbin will be named coach.

Sloan, who also coached the Bulls, has a 1,221-803 career record.

The Jazz, with a 31-23 record, have slipped to sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
