Gerald Jones, 33, a black man, was shot in the torso in the parking lot of the Cornett Motel at 6345 Crenshaw Ave. in LAPD’s 77th Street Division, and died about 1:25 a.m. April 1. Detectives said that he and some friends had rented a room at the motel and had quarreled with men who also wanted a room. Gang rivalry was probably also at issue, they said. Jones died at the scene. (Right, love note on the parking lot fence.)

Update: LAPD South Bureau detectives have cleared this case. A 37-year-old black man has been arrested and charged with Jones’ murder.
