Jahaira Keys, a 17-year-old black young woman, was struck in the head by a bullet at 880 E. Donminguez St. in Carson, and died at 12:57 a.m. Thursday, May 3.

Sheriff’s investigators gave this account: She had been at a club called Bistro 880. Members of a gang were having an evening party there. Some of their rivals from another gang, wearing gang colors, had shown up to crash the party but were thrown out.

The rivals changed clothes and tried again to get in, but they were recognized. This prompted a fight, which spilled out into the parking lot. Jahaira was in a group of people gathered in a circle watching the fight when a heavyset black woman across the street, who investigators believe was associated with one of the gangs, fired randomly into the group. Jahaira was struck in the head and died at the scene.
