Opinion: If she doesn’t become VP, Sarah Palin foresees a ‘uniter’ role for herself

Since her selection as Sen. John McCain’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin has participated in 132 events in 105 cities and 25 states. She has conducted at least 100 interviews with local and national media.
This reminder from the Ticket: During her nine and a half weeks on the national stage, Palin not once took a turn in the hot seat of a Sunday morning interview show.
Palin cast her ballot in Alaska this morning and then revisited some of the familiar haunts she’s been away from while stumping in the Lower 48. These included the Mocha Moose coffee shop in her hometown of Wasilla.
She briefly chatted with a pack of reporters following her, including Jason George of the Chicago Tribune. He relates that in reflecting upon her future in national politics -- if that doesn’t include a stint as vice president starting Jan. 20 -- Palin said, ‘It won’t be so much partisan. ... It certainly would be a uniter type of role.’
Not surprisingly, she expressed chagrin about what she termed ‘the state of journalism today ... the blogosphere, the 23-hour news cycles, where just too much is reported based on gossip and innuendo and things taken out of context.’
Perhaps surprisingly, she expressed an interest in what George termed ‘righting the wrongs she sees in journalism’ (the field she majored in as a college student).
Said Palin: ‘I’d like to help in that effort also because I have great respect for the world of journalism.’
