Dan from the Inland Empire here. Well, I’m not really from the Inland Empire, I’m from Orange County, basically living the first 21 years of my life in the Lake Forest area (back when they still called it El Toro) and the last 15 or so around in the city of Orange (yea, I got priced out too).

Anyway, I got an e-mail today from a public-relations company that’s promoting an on-line contest for high school athletes.

They can upload their favorite highlight (keep it under five minutes, please, they don’t watch to watch you scale Mount Everest) and viewers will help with the selection process.

Two grand prize winners will earn a trip to New York for the Wendy’s High School Heisman weekend in December, as well as a $250 gift card to Wendy’s. That would’ve went a long way a few years ago, when my pregnant wife could only stomach Wendy’s junior bacon cheeseburgers.

Anyway, again, it will be neat to see some personal highlights from games around the country. Unfortunately, we didn’t have these things available when I played football for El Toro in the early 80s, or me and my pals would have some pretty good footage of us whoopin’ Mission Viejo (or is it the El Toro Diablos of Mission Viejo??).

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
