Woodbridge took it on the nose Thursday against Irvine, 42-13, and I liked what Coach Rick Gibson had to say: ‘You take a whipping and keep moving on. We’ve got to get experience, and better, quickly. Our schedule gets a whole lot better.’

Woodbridge plays Garden Grove, University, Laguna Hills and Beckman before opening Sea View League against, notably, Foothill, the league favorite.

Irvine already had a game under its belt when the rivals faced off at the district stadium. Woodbridge had nine starters on offense, and four of five linemen, who had never played a varsity down.

The Warriors’ quarterback, David Ingram, looked as if he had some potential, though, and tight end Kyle O’Mara made a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone that was as good as any you’ll see.
