One of the really interesting players to watch this season will be Anaheim Canyon quarterback Jordan Thomas. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior is a three-year starter and is coming off an eight-for-14 performance for 216 yards -- an average of 27 yards a completion -- and three touchdowns in a season-opening 49-21 victory over Paramount.

‘We’ll probably start throwing more,’ said Canyon Coach Brent McKee, whose team plays at Bonita on Friday. ‘He has the potential to be very good -- not like (Edison’s) Nick Crissman -- but he’ll probably go to a Division I-AA college and play and have a nice career. He has a nice arm, a nice touch and the experience. He just doesn’t have the quickest feet in the world.’

Thomas completed 56.7% of his passes in 2006, averaged 133.5 yards a game, and had 12 touchdown passes with eight interceptions. As a sophomore, he completed 51.4% of his passes, averaged 140 yards with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

My guess is McKee’s decision to pass more will be a good one.
