For the last three years, Luis Hernandez has spent most of his fall Friday nights manning a weird, pole-like contraption behind the Canyon end zone. The end-zone camera, a must-have accessory for any big-time high school program, has been a staple in the Cowboys’ game-film diet for years.

‘We still have a sideline camera, but this allows the coaches to look at each video together,’ Hernandez said. ‘The coaches love it.’

And Hernandez loves filming, especially because he gets to see his son, Garrett, from field level.

‘I just amazes me how great the talent level is out there,’ Hernandez said. ‘You couldn’t pay me to do this.’

Game Update: The score remains tied, 14-14, at halftime. St. Bonny’s Darrell Scott has 175 yards and two TDs in 13 carries.

Quote of the night: (Directed at yours truly while I was filing this blog) ‘Hopefully you’re writing about how we’re getting sc***ed [by the refs],’ Canyon defensive coach John DiLuigi said. ‘We’re getting homered badly.’

By the way, the guy in the photo is Canyon WR Mark Urbina just after he made a 34-yard catch in the first quarter to set up a two-yard Mike Spagnola TD.
