So far, it’s classic standoff.

Neither host Dorsey nor No. 14 Santa Margarita could break through for a score in the first half. The visiting Eagles had the best chance, though, recovering a fumble on the Dons’ 20 and driving to the one-yard line. But on fourth down, running back Carlo Audganotti was tackled for a four-yard loss.

Dorsey got inside the Eagles’ 20 twice, but one of the drives was stalled via a sack by senior nose guard David Slater. That brought a big smile from his father, Jackie Slater, who played with the Rams when they played in Southern California. Jackie was an offensive tackle for 20 seasons and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2001.

Jackie also served as an assistant coach for the Oakland Raiders under Art Shell, but the entire staff was replaced after a 2-14 season.

‘I’m back living in Orange County and watching my son,’ Jackie said.

And, no doubt, waiting for another big play from David that may decide the outcome.
